Southwyck Community Association Call for Candidates for Election to the Board of Directors

The 2008 Annual Members Meeting of the Southwyck Community Association is scheduled for January 15, 2009 at the Southwyck Golf Club. The purpose of the meeting is to hold elections for three positions on the Board of Directors, and to bring you up-to-date on issues affecting the Association.

This Association (sometimes called the "Master" Association) represents all of the homeowners in Southglen, Emerald Pointe, Huntington Park, Southfield Village, Edgewater Estates, Lakecrest Estates, and Southmanor. Each community is also represented by a Section or "village" Association that handles maintenance of pools and other common areas, as well as deed restriction enforcement. The Southwyck (Mmaster) CA handles assessment collection for both the Master and village Associations, and maintenance of certain common areas throughout the community.
The Master Association is governed by a five member volunteer Board of Directors. The positions up for election this year are currently held by Kurt Evenson, Sue Funkhouser, and Dan McClure. Two of these positions are 3 year terms, and one of the positions will be a 2 year term. The two candidates receiving the most votes will be elected for the 3 year terms. Any ties will be decided via a coin toss.

Anyone interested in running for a position on the Board of Directors may contact Nominating Committee Chair Lisa Fontenot at lisafont@comcast.net, Association Manager Kathy Dooley at Kathy@CMSIsolutions.com, or any Board member for additional information. Nominees must be in good standing (current on fees or payments due the Association). Candidates are asked to provide a brief (no more than 250 words) note presenting biographical information and their interest or qualifications for the position. This information will be shared with the membership. Notice of intent to run for election and your biographical summary must be postmarked no later than November 8th, and may be mailed to the Association at 2615 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058, or emailed to Lisa and Kathy at the addresses above. Only one member per household may run for a position on the Board.

Additional information concerning the date, time, and place of the meeting will be mailed to all homeowners in November. Please watch for your letter and make plans to attend this very important meeting.

Sincerely,
Board of Directors Southwyck Community Association, Inc.

Kurt Evenson, Vice President

Parking at Morgan Park Baseball Field

Although the problem of parking near the baseball field has continued, the HOA cannot tow or ticket offenders. Southwyck Section IV HOA put up No Parking signs in Huntington Park near the Morgan Park baseball field before being annexed by the City of Pearland on December 31, 2006. Following annexation, the city put up official No Parking signs. Individuals who have reserved the baseball field are instructed not to park on Sorensen Drive or other neighborhood streets. This will be added as a condition/requirement on the reservation forms. The HOA is aware of times of games and has shared this information with the Pearland Police Department. Pearland Police Department Liaison, Sgt. David Nagle, has agreed to patrol and decide if a warning or ticket is in order for offenders.

PISD Elementary Art Program

Members of the Southwyck and Silverlake communities are organizing to address Pearland ISD's plan to no longer include an art program in PISD elementary schools. The school district plans to phase out the program over the next 2 years.

A group has been formed to organize parent actions and present facts about this situation. If you would like to participate in the SaveArtInSchool Yahoo group, here are the details:
